The Power of Lifting Up: Others! Lead!

The Power of Lifting Others Up: A Leadership Perspective

November 15, 2024ā€¢2 min read

These thought have been running through my head for a week. In our fast-paced world, it's easy to fall into patterns of competitive thinking and defensive positioning. But what if we could transform our interactions, our leadership, and ultimately our world by simply changing how we lift each other up?

The Weight of Negative Energy

Recently, I witnessed a situation that brought this concept into sharp focus. A family member is currently sharing their living space with someone whose constant negativity and criticism acts like a weight, dragging down not just the mood but the potential of everyone around them. It's a stark reminder of how our approach to others can either elevate or diminish the collective energy of our environments.

From Defense to Support

Think about the last time someone jabbed their finger into your ribs. What happened? You likely couldn't focus on anything else ā€“ that point of discomfort consumed your attention. The same happens when we pose questions or make comments that put others on the defensive. Instead of fostering growth and collaboration, we create barriers and resistance.

The Ripple Effect of Positivity

What if we taught our children ā€“ and reminded ourselves ā€“ to:

  • Celebrate others' successes as if they were our own

  • View competitors as allies on the same journey

  • Ask questions that empower rather than interrogate

  • Give freely without expectation of return

The Race We're All Running

Picture yourself in a race. The true champions aren't just those who cross the finish line first ā€“ they're the ones who:

  • Cheer on their fellow runners

  • Celebrate everyone's personal bests

  • Pull others up when they stumble

  • Win with grace and lose with gratitude

Remember: In lifting others, we elevate ourselves. As the principles in "The Go-Giver" teach us, our success multiplies when we focus on creating value for others.

Your Leadership Challenge

This week, I challenge you to:

  1. Transform one potentially negative interaction into an uplifting moment

  2. Celebrate a competitor's success

  3. Ask questions that empower rather than challenge

  4. Look for opportunities to be someone else's cheerleader
